This is the latest in a continuing series of posts where we feature a member of our team using a Q&A format so you can get to know them a little better – both personally and professionally. This week we’ll be interviewing Mary Radke, who joined Brown and Company in April of 2019 as a Staff Accountant. Mary is responsible for budgeting, cash flow analysis, forecasting, expense tracking, financial reporting and bookkeeping. Originally from Wisconsin, Mary earned her B.S. in Zoology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After moving to Colorado immediately after graduation, she discovered her passion for accounting while working for a start-up brewery in Boulder. Mary is pursuing her M.S. in Accounting degree at Regis University and after graduation, she will test for her CPA. Mary and her partner, Scotty, own an urban farm in Northwest Denver where they raise vegetables, fruit, chickens and ducks. They also enjoy biking, skiing/snowboarding, camping, seeing live music and cooking Q: Can you briefly describe your role at Brown and Company? A: Yes, I’m responsible for the company’s financial operations including recording, collecting, analyzing, and reporting on financial data, while ensuring that we comply with financial laws and regulations. Q: What is your favorite part about working for Brown and Company? A: I really like and admire my co-workers. We are close knit team and I know I can always count on them for support and guidance. Q: What have you gained from working at Brown and Company? A: Knowledge of the wealth management industry, confidence, and success. Now, we’ll switch gears to learn more what you like to do outside of the office. Q. What do you like to do on your days off? A: Outside of Brown and Company, I am usually working on our urban farm, biking, snowboarding in the mountains or studying for my master’s degree. Q. What is your favorite quote? A: “But that's the challenge -- to change the system more than it changes you.” ― Michael Pollan Q. What is the first concert you attended? A. When I was 15, I saw Green Day in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and have loved seeing live music ever since. I keep the ticket stub from each show I go to, and my top 4 favorite bands I’ve seen over 50 times each! Q: When was the last time you laughed so hard you cried? A: For my birthday in October this year, I took a trip to Isla Mujeres, Mexico with 12 of my best girlfriends. Throughout our adventure, we laughed so hard we cried many times. It was an epic experience and I feel very lucky to have such amazing friends.
